Dr Joyee Chatterjee joins Gender and Development Studies
Dr. Joyee S Chatterjee has joined Gender and Development Studies (GDS) at AIT’s School of Environment, Resources and Development as Assistant Professor.
Dr. Chatterjee received her Doctorate in Communication from the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism, University of Southern California (USC), USA. Her undergraduate degree is in Political Science from the Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi University (India) and she has an M.A. in Social Work from the Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai (India) as well as a M.A. in Communication Management from USC Annenberg.
She has recently concluded a two-year postdoctoral position at USC where she worked with an interdisciplinary team from the Schools of Cinema, Medicine and Communication investigate communication of critical health issues via stories and the role of narratives in reducing health disparities. She has also served as an adjunct faculty member at the Annenberg School of Communication.
Her research interests include the role of media technologies and culture in promoting health and social change. Dr. Chatterjee’s past projects and publications include collaborations with the BBC Media Action in India on campaigns promoting change in social norms among men related to HIV/AIDS prevention and condom use; campaign research for a radio drama to promote gender equity; and an analysis of the communication campaigns in India on how men have been addressed in media campaigns on violence against women..
