BSY Construction donates 500,000 Baht for AIT Library
BSY Construction Co. Ltd., a firm led by an alumnus of the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) has donated 500,000 Thai Baht towards the modernization of the AIT Library. Handing over the donation on 19 May 2015 was Mr. Somchai Jittavisutthibvong, Managing Director, BSY Construction, who was accompanied by another AIT alum Mr. Sukhum Tantrapongsaton.
AIT President Prof. Worsak Kanok-Nukulchai thanked them for remembering their alma mater and contributing towards the modernization of the AIT library. Highlighting the overall plan, Prof. Worsak stated that the new library will incorporate elements of both modern technology and design. While the library interiors are being conceptualized by a notable interior designer, the new AIT Library will use Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) to replace bar codes.
“We plan to use the expertise of our mechatronics laboratory by including a robot in the library, which shall move along fixed paths collecting and carrying books,” Prof. Worsak said. The center court of the library, which is a green area will be integrated within the library so that students can take their books and read in the open area, he added. “I have also challenged my colleagues to suggest innovative ideas,” the AIT President said.
Mr. Sanjeev Jayasinghe, Director, Fundraising, while welcoming Mr. Somchai and Mr. Sukhum, thanked them for their generosity. Prof. Pennung Warnitchai of AIT’s School of Engineering and Technology (SET) also joined the deliberations.
