Dr Weerakorn Ongsakul promoted to the rank of Professor
Dr. Weerakorn Ongsakul has been promoted to the rank of Professor. His elevation was confirmed at the meeting of the AIT Board of Trustees held on 16 February 2017.
Dr. Weerakorn joined the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) as an Assistant Professor in the Energy Program of the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) in January 2001. He obtained both his Ph.D. and master’s degrees in Electrical Engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, Texas, U.S.A. in 1994, and 1991, respectively. Dr. Weerakorn graduated from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand with the degree of Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering in 1988.
Dr. Weerakorn’s research encompasses the areas of artificial intelligence applications in power system optimization, parallel processing applications, power system operation and control, and power system restructuring and deregulation.
He served as Dean of the School of Environment, Resources and Development (SERD) from September 2009 to June 2013, and is currently serving as the Secretary General of the Greater Mekong Subregion Academic and Research Network (GMSARN) since May 2006.
