STATE OF EMERGENCY IN BANGKOK

Announcement from the President of AIT

Announcement from the President of AIT

Dear Members of the AIT Community,

As many of you are already aware a state of emergency has been declared in Bangkok. Details on the state of emergency has recently been posted on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand website at the below link:

The announcement notes that “the state of emergency is a temporary measure, and has been declared only in Bangkok, and that within Bangkok itself, only a few districts have been affected by the incidents. The clash that took place between anti-and pro-government demonstrators occurred in the government district during the early morning of 2 September 2008, have since subsided with the police and military in control of the situation. In other districts of Bangkok and the rest of the Kingdom, people continue to carry out their livelihood as usual with the country’s economic and financial system functioning normally”.

Members of the community are requested to take precautionary measures, by avoiding the areas where clashes or protests have taken place, and are also advised to keep themselves updated on the situation. On our part, we will also be continually reviewing the situation and community members will be kept posted if there any further updates.

Sincerely,

Said Irandoust

President
